Coming off the success of last year’s collaborative album “Barrel Brothers” with Skyzoo, Torae returns with his sophomore album, “Entitled”. Picking up where his debut “For the Record” left off, we find Torae back in his zone of witty and thought-provoking lyrics over stellar production. The album features production from Grammy Award-winning producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Nottz, and Denaun Porter. Guest features include: Grammy-nominated acts like Phonte (of Foreign Exchange/Little Brother), actor/singer/songwriter Mack Wilds, and Teedra Moses. “Entitled” also features the Pharoahe Monch-assisted “What’s Love?” previously unavailable on CD or vinyl formats.
Since 2007, the Lawrence, KS-based outfit known as SUNU has been consistently delivering what has been described as “A wall of drums, horns, and funk”. Employing West-African percussion such as djembe and dunun combined with a trio of powerhouse horns and a driving rhythm section allows them to mix elements of Afrobeat, funk, jazz, and R&B. This potent stew of pure soul keeps them regarded as one of the most in-demand acts in the Lawrence and Kansas City areas. With their first release on Sunflower Soul Records, SUNU makes several statements: with rhythm, with harmony, with their voices. In the tradition of Fela Kuti, they show that they are not afraid to speak out against the atrocities that face the modern world. With “Food, Inc.” and “Liberation”, SUNU aims to inspire movement in society as well as movement of booties on the dance floor!
Los Angeles' Guy Blakeslee is the visionary guitarist and songwriter from Entrance/The Entrance Band. "The Middle Sister" is new territory for a Blakeslee recording album: 100% instrumental movements for acoustic and electric guitar recorded to & from magnetic tape. 19 minute-long Side A envelops two migrations of acoustic guitar picking within particles of acoustic piano ambiance and tibetan singling bowl texture. 20 minute-long Side B continues upon the melodic motif beginning within an electric domain of resonant drone. As the movements mature, the listener is carried into a climax of krautrock trance, dissolving into a liberating resolution of experimental harmonics and noise. "The Middle Sister" represents maturity of a master craftsman for a generation seeking hope, and finding truth.
San Francisco native Orb has been an underground DJ for over 25 years, although you probably have never heard of him. After searching for Animal Chin with the Bones Brigade, he redirected his search for breaks and beats, traded unheard of 45s with Cut Chemist and Skatemaster Tate in the early 90’s and was instrumental in building the legendary reputation of the King King on La Cienega in Los Angeles. This debut single fuses gritty beats with live instrumentation featuring Tommy Guerrero on Guitar. It’s a colorful journey through the obscured lens of Charles Bukowski at a titty bar. Strictly analog production, no caged chickens were used in the recording of this.

Without a doubt, "Android Porn" by Kraddy (founding member of The Glitch Mob) is an exceptional track and one of the true anthems for a kind of new music called "Glitch Hop". Upon its release, the original version grabbed the attention of producers and fans alike and immediately climbed both sales and DJ charts. Kraddy is known worldwide for his distinctive style. His sets are a futuristic fusion of dubstep, hip hop, and dancehall - all laced with Kraddy's signature style of edits and remixes that make his sound so unique. Like the skaters and surfers from his home in Venice Beach, Kraddy will unapologetically blow your mind with his skill, style and his no prisoners attitude.
Swarvy is dope. We all saw this when "Scotch" dropped last year to high acclaim. Stunts picks up where Scotch left off. Stunts is a four volume journey with a wide range of sonics, from live instrumentation, to beaten up samples. The 2xLP offers 40 tracks, 10 as of yet unheard by the world, and exclusive to the vinyl.

Ras G is one of the definitive producers of the Los Angeles beat scene, a co-founder of the Poo-Bah label, and hip-hop beat-maker who digs probably deeper than any into the worlds of free jazz, jazz fusion and afrofuturism. The prolific producer currently has two albums on Brainfeeder, two released by Poo-Bah, and several on Leaving Records, including the beat tape series Raw Fruit. Focused and expansive, El-Aylien is a cosmic exhibit in Ras G’s sonic explorations of collage and rhythm.
Live from the Streets' is a video series created by producer Mr. Green and director Sam Lipman-Stern. The series, which airs on Noisey, follows Green globally on a journey meeting interesting people and musicians on the streets. Green samples their music; interviews the street performer; and then turns the sounds into original beats. After the beat is created, he collaborates with one of his favorite rappers to add powerful lyrics to the musical backdrop he and the street musician constructed. Finally, at the end of each episode, Green revisits the people he sampled to play theam the final track; often times receiving emotional responses from people who have never heard themselves on recorded audio. The final episodes are a unique hybrid music/video experience. Mr. Green is now preparing to release his first ever Live From The Streets album on vinyl in collaboration with Fat Beats.
Further carving out its place as the home for cutting-edge R&B, Fresh Selects is proud to present the beginning of something special. A formidable songwriter working behind the scenes with major R&B stars for years now - Inglewood, L.A.-based multi-talent, SiR, is now stepping to the forefront with his official solo debut. Effortlessly combining his instantly recognizable voice and universally relatable songwriting with the rawness of the indie L.A. beat scene - SiR defines his own sound that’s both refreshingly new and immediately digestible at the same time. A rare combination of mass appeal and artistic integrity, he’s poised to bring pop appeal to the underground, and substance and a unique ear for production to the mainstream. On his full-length debut, Seven Sundays, his writing covers the full spectrum of a relationship - from infatuation to heartbreak, playful indulgence to addictive co-dependency, and ultimately, growth through letting go. Throughout the album’s 14 tracks, each one single-worthy in it’s own right, SiR flexes his pen game through both personal soul-bearing, vivid storytelling and lighthearted shit-talking alike. SiR’s recent writing placements include Jill Scott’s new single “Fool’s Gold,” plus forthcoming songs by Melanie Fiona (including a duet w/ Mr. Stevie Wonder), Robert Glasper & Anita Baker, Bilal & Tweet, Tyrese & Marsha Ambrosius, and about a dozen others. His debut LP also boasts an all-star line-up of producers, including Knxwledge (known for his work with Kendrick Lamar, Joey BADA$$ and Blu), Iman Omari (Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Ty Dolla $ign), DK The Punisher (Justin Bieber, Dom Kennedy), Chris Dave (Blue Note recording artist, drummer for Adele, D’Angelo), J LBs (Jhene Aiko, Casey Veggies), Alvin Isaacs II (Boyz II Men, Trey Songz) and Tiffany Gouché (Iggy Azalea, Little Simz) - making it an audible time capsule of an exciting moment-in-time for an entire new wave of Los Angeles talent. With all of the stars aligned in it’s favor, it’s a safe bet that Seven Sundays will prove in time to be the seminal West Coast R&B album of 2015!

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
