Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, the creative force behind A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars Of The Lid, presents his score for the motion picture Salero on vinyl courtesy of Erased Tapes. With Salero Wiltzie weaves some of his finest work to date and delivers an expertly distilled accompaniment to director Mike Plunkett's sprawling, uncompromising visuals. Set in Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat, the narrative follows the region's Saleros – those who have for generations gathered salt and earned enough to somehow carve out an existence in such a barren landscape. It's with the discovery of huge Lithium reserves – a mineral used frequently throughout the tech industry – under the scorched earth that acts as a catalyst for exploitation of the environment and its people; holding a microscope to the drastic effect industrialization has on local culture and tradition. "I have always said that composing music is infinitely easier when you have beautiful images to be inspired by," Wiltzie explains. "It was a pleasure to write a score over this captivating place of endless, glimmering salt before its impending demise. I was fascinated by this mythical space and its ability to define the identities of the people who live in its vicinity, where this vast salt flat itself would be a central character."
Housed in an exclusive silk-screened jacket from antidesigns! When most people think about Nigerian music, the first thing that comes to mind is Lagos-the country's main commercial center, the glittering megacity that spawned Yoruba-speaking music luminaries such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Sir Shina Peters and Wizkid. But Nigeria is a country of rich diversity, especially in its music: From the Igbo highlife and rock bands of east-central region, to the deep Edo roots rhythms from the midwest, to the keening, ornamented Fulani melodies of the north. But one region whose music has remained largely underexplored is the south eastern land of the Efik and Ibibio ethnic groups in Cross River and Akwa Ibom State-the region colloquially referred to as "Calabar." A cradle of culture, this region was one of the earliest outposts of Nigerian popular music. Its primordial rhythms traveled across the Atlantic during the slave trade to provide the part of the foundation for Afro-Cuban grooves that would go on to influence the development of jazz, rock & roll, R&B and funk. With the new Calabar-Itu Road compilation, Comb & Razor Sound presents15 heavy tracks recorded in the decade between 1972 and 1982, spotlighting rare music from "Calabar" superstars such as Etubom Rex Williams, Cross River Nationale, Charles "Effi" Duke, The Doves and Mary Afi Usuah. The package features a magazine-style booklet containing a wealth of information about the milieu with rare photographs and illustrations. The Calabar-Itu Road is the major artery linking modern-day Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. And Calabar-Itu Road: Groovy Sounds from South Eastern Nigeria (1972-1982) will link the region's music to the rest of the world!
Scott’s second studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, is the Houston rapper’s most concise and cohesive project to date.
"For those who crave Sabbath-like dirges, Electric Wizard has few peers." - The Chicago Tribune World-class British doom metal band Electric Wizard are back with their long-awaited new album Black Masses to be released courtesy of Metal Blade Records/Rise Above Records. The legendary group's seventh studio album was recorded with Grammy Award-winning British recording engineer Liam Watson (The White Stripes) in London's Toe Rag Studios. Long hailed as the true heirs to Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard have achieved near iconic status in the metal underground and the band prepares to annihilate the planet with Black Masses, their "dark prayer to Luciferian heavy metal" via crackling, vintage valve amplifiers set to full overdrive. Propelled by gigantic riffs and dripping with dark, bluesy undertones, Black Masses is an ugly, sleazy and dirty album steeped in unruly themes of '70s exploitation cinema, occultism, substance abuse and narco-satanism. Taken as a whole, the record creates a twisted amalgam of late '60s dark acid psychedelia and early '80s satanic metal, all draped in both vile, misanthropic imagery and lyrics. "This ritual incantation of heavy metal sorcery will break down your psyche as wave upon crushing wave of lead weight acid-laced Doom leaves you numb and broken before our unholy altar," declared Electric Wizard cult leader Jus Oborn. "Violent, bleak and ritualistic, we bow to the black altar of the riff. We do not rock, we kill!"
Limited Repress! The second album from James Leyland Kirby's alias The Caretaker, originally released in 2011 following 2008's Persistent Repetition Of Phrases (HAFTW 003CD). By now regarded an absolute classic of haunted ambient music, An Empty Bliss Beyond The World returns the doddering protagonist to the deserted ballroom, wandering its waxed floor and dilapidated grandeur in an attempt to capture an era which has long since disappeared but still haunts the atmosphere. James Leyland Kirby conjures a quieter, more introspective spirit, lost in his own mind amidst a low-lit labyrinth of ever-decaying and antediluvian shellac phrases. Sourced from his mysterious collection of 78s, these vague snippets of archaic sonics reflect the ability of Alzheimers patients to recall the songs of their past, and with them recollections of places, people, moods and sensations. The effect is subtly amplified by the chronic mastering at D&M, allowing each memory to segue seamlessly and unpredictably into the next for an otherworldly and disorienting experience. An Empty Bliss Beyond The World is a highly potent transmission from one of the most singular characters operating in music today. James Leyland Kirby, is also known as Leyland Kirby, The Stranger and V/VM. Mastered and cut by Lupo. Artwork features another specially commissioned painting by Ivan Seal.
The star-studded (David Bowie! Lou Reed! David Bowie!) soundtrack to David Lynch's surrealist masterpiece Lost Highway is, well, a masterpiece in its own right, matching the film's shape-shifting narrative move-for-move.
To celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, Coalmine Records is pleased to release a special-edition 7-inch version of Heltah Skeltah’s previously digital-only slapper, “Midnight Madness,” featuring DJ Revolution. As fans of the duo already know, the circa-2009 track is pure flames, and brimming with hilarious bad-guy lyricism from Ruck (aka the late Sean Price), and his partner in rhyme, Rock. The two absolutely let loose over Shuko’s funky instrumental, as Ruck drops concrete flows while Rock communicates with animals. And that’s just the A-Side. On the B-Side, you’ll find the haunting remix produced by the Grammy-winning, M-Phazes. Fans of his work may recognize this joint from Coalmine’s 2012 remix compilation, 'Phazed Out.' The record itself will be sold in a plain 45 sleeve, but the donut contains the work of acclaimed designer, Joe Buck, who embraced the 1980 released cult movie of the same title, which also serves as the track’s theme. On each side, you’ll find references and illustrations central to both the film, and the track, from the sketch of Leon the Game Master on Side-A, to M-Phazes ‘Good Gracious’ tagline on Side-B. Both tracks are now available for stream and download, while the limited-edition 45 will be available as a record store day exclusive, via Coalmine Records. Let the madness begin…again.
Straight up sweet cinematic soul from Seattle, WA via THE DIP!! Sweet horns, dirty drums, and a tight rhythm section makes for a fantastic debut 45 for Colemine. For fans of Daptone’s much-sampled Menahan Street Band.

Sean Price tragically passed away in August, 2015 at the age of 43. Sean was a popular rapper, hailing from Brooklyn, NY. He was celebrated for his work as ½ of the group, Heltah Skeltah, and 1/8 of the supergroup, Boot Camp Clik. However, his solo albums were what truly set him apart. To highlight this work, Duck Down Music has created a truly unique vinyl box set featuring Sean Prices' Monkey Barz, Jesus Price Supastar and Mic Tyson albums. The limited-edition box set has a hologram cover depicting Sean Price in the jungle, battling a gang of angry gorillas. The scene is reminiscent of the art portrayed from his previous titles. The box set will be available on Black Friday, November 25th, 2016!
A brand new collaborative work from Mica Levi (aka Micachu) and Oliver Coates. "Remain Calm" showcases both musicians background in classical composition as well as their restless impulse to blur the boundaries between contemporary genres, from grime to techno to drone. Theres something very specifically British about the compositions, the soundtrack to a supermarket car park on a rainy weekday afternoon, whilst ghosts of pirate radio flicker in and out of earshot from passing cars. Shades of Iannis Xenakis, Aphex Twin, Burial and Scott Walkers film music are suggested in certain passages, but the sum of its parts are a very singular soundworld and a stunning piece of work. Vinyl includes full color printed inner sleeves and download card.
Letherette will release their second album for Ninja Tune Last Night On The Planet on 25th November 2016. Ten tracks deep and running the gamut from hip-hop (featuring raps from Rejjie Snow and Stones Throws Pyramid Vritra), to straight-up four-to-the- floor house trax, uptempo 80s R&B-inspired dancefloor heaters, and deeper, introspective downtempo moments (blessed by Jed & Lucia of Ubiquity Records). New album Last Night On The Planet feels more instant and direct than their self-titled debut but the duos signature warmth and distinctive swing is present and correct. Opener Momma featuring Irish rapper (transplanted to Los Angeles) Rejjie Snow is a classic throwback rap jam, recalling Pete Rock at his finest: unfussy, direct and utterly irresistible. Its up there with the fastest tracks Ive ever written, says Andy. I made it the day before I was in the studio with Rejjie and knew hed like it. Elsewhere, first single Shanel (downsampled and processed through an old rack sampler for that CRUNCH) nods to Andy and Richs love of 80s R&B productions by the late great Kashif (RIP), Rene & Angela and Glenn Jones; Rich & Dan harks back to timeless early ette chops; widescreen epic Rubu utilises minutely detailed sample reconstruction techniques and subtly nods to footwork and rave euphoria; and uptempo heaters Frugaloo and Dog Brush were the joyful product of late night one-take jam sessions: Me and Rich listened to Dog Brush about 40 times on repeat after we made it it always feels more instant and natural when tracks come together quickly.

“Ninja Scrol is a champion of anime and belongs in the upper echelons of its history.” – Cine-Vue Ninja Scroll is the landmark 1993 anime film from Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodust, The Animatrix). Set in feudal Japan, the wandering ninja mercenary Jubei becomes drawn into the plot of eight demons plotting to overthrow the Shogun. Groundbreaking in its depictions of swordplay and animated action sequences, Ninja Scroll stands with Akira and Ghost in the Shell as a classic of the genre. Kaoru Wada’s timeless score frames Jubei’s adventure across a fantastical Japan with a stirring mix of brass, trembling strings, and traditional woodwinds. Milan Records is proud to give Ninja Scroll the vinyl treatment such a classic release deserves. Pressed on a single transparent red vinyl accented by black smoke and housed in a dress jacket with original artwork by Yuji Kaida, Kaoru Wada’s timeless score has never been presented more beautifully. This striking production is limited to 500 units!
Redefinition Records is known mostly for working with some of the best and brightest artists in hip-hop from underground legends to certified veterans, but this release marks the first time the NJ/DC based indie label ventured into new territory, literally, by teaming up with Germany’s Klaus Layer for the release of his debut album, The Adventures of Captain Crook. Klaus Layer, aka Captain Crook, was always interested in eastern German art and music, but it was the fall of the Berlin Wall that truly opened up new opportunities for him to explore a wider range of art and foreign cultures. Klaus was born in Oranienburg, Germany, and while his preference for 90’s hip-hop music and the influence of a local graffiti scene can be seen and heard in his work, he has his own distinct identity as a creator. Klaus cites artists like Michael Hamel, Günther Fischer, Can, Pete Rock, Damu the Fudgemunk and Lord Finesse as sources of inspiration, just as much as he does the Surrealist style of art as well as the audio & visuals found in old movies from the 50s-70s. All of Layer’s different influences, along with some non-traditional sampling resources have somehow been morphed together via his instrument of choice, a sampler, into a unique style of instrumental music full of rich layers, including all sorts of percussive and melodic patterns. The Adventures of Captain Crook is a stunning album, full of beautiful melodies, expertly chopped samples and neck snapping drums, that only seems to get better with each listen. While the album is mostly instrumental, one of today’s best and brightest MC’s, Blu, shows up on not one but two tracks with show-stealing verses on the LP’s two vocal tracks, including the fan favorite “Illest In Charge” and “Come Back” which also features New World Color’s Scienze (of Divine Scienze). This is an album that will stand the test of time and one that defines the label’s motto of Quality Over Quantity.
Vinnie Paz, the dynamic frontman of Jedi Mind Tricks and orchestrator of the supergroup Army of the Pharaohs, returns with his third full-length solo album, The Cornerstone of the Corner Store. After more than 20 years in the game, Paz once again demonstrates his craft with the acumen and reverence of a well-schooled veteran. Independently released on his own imprint, Enemy Soil Records, The Cornerstone of the Corner Store is the culmination of a lifetime of dedication. According to Paz, the sound and aesthetic of Cornerstone is a heavy dose of grit and grime; ''It's a dirty record by design. It's an homage to that era I grew up in.'' Indeed, Cornerstone is flled with the type of ferocious rhymes and snarling delivery that the Philadelphia MC is known for. The growl is thick, the vocal weaponry is heavy, and Paz delivers each track with his unique blend of raw street gospel and philosophical consciousness.
Return to the Sea Who knew how warm the islands would be... Ten years on, Islands is celebrating the release of their seminal debut album Return to the Sea with a classy anniversary reissue. Remastered for vinyl and pressed to 2xLP 180 gram vinyl at 45rpm, it has never sounded better. The artwork has received a tasteful touchup, with gatefold, printed inner sleeves, archival photos never before released, and an indepth essay about the albums creation by Mr. Diamonds himself
2814 are one of the most innovative musical acts in recent memory. Blending breathtaking ambient soundscapes and futuristic downtempo experiments with a gorgeous sense of electronic melancholy and urban atmosphere, the ever-elusive duo’s sound is defined by their brilliant adoration for warped, hypnagogic nostalgia and the simultaneous outlook into a futuristic dystopian setting – a winning combination of loss and optimism translated through a heavily altered new age lens. Rain Temple, their third full-length album, represents a new chapter in 2814′s sound: sprawling synth drones, beautifully distant vocals, swirling percussion, and an ethereal sonic aura tie together a simply masterful record. HKE and t e l e p a t h have once again created a stunning artistic statement that exceeds expectation and goes far beyond most modern ambient music, reminding us that beyond our late night somber and eternal wonder, we all remain.

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
