These recordings come from a rare studio session that took place in 1991 @ the Box Studio in NYC. When Greg Caz and Deano Sounds teamed up to create The Brasileiro Treasure Box Of Funk & Soul they created a collection of vintage Brazilian music that stretches across the scope of funk, soul, and psychedelic. Co-compiler and Brazilian music aficionado, Greg Caz says: “Without necessarily having a central theme other than funky nuggets from the first half of the 70s, we believe this compilation displays its own particular sense of logic, and that these songs ultimately all sound fantastic together. Regardless of one’s familiarity, or lack thereof, with artists like Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, Os Incríveis, Toni Tornado or Celia, the material on these 45s speaks its own truth and justifies their inclusion here. Many of these were originally available as singles, while others were taken from albums, but all are guaranteed to find their way into many DJ boxes and playlists.” The stunning 45s from this set will now be available for individual sale. The series continues with the split 7” containing the essential rare groove track “Bananeira” by Emilio Santiago b/w Osmar Milito E Quarteto Forma’s rare “América Latina” (as sampled by Madlib). Also available, the extremely rare and funky “Labirinto” by 2001 & Beto on a split 45 with the Fender Rhodes driven infectious samba from Trio Mocotó called “Swinga Sambaby.”

Big Crown is proud to present the debut single from 79.5 “Terrorize My Heart”. Hard to categorize, easy to love, 79.5 has been making tons of noise around New York City for the past year. With three lead vocalists, Kate, Nya, and Piya and a band that pulls influence from every corner of a record store, it’s no wonder they are already taking the scene by storm. They are an act that gets put on as an opener and shortly there after is asked by the venue to do a month long residency. That residency leads them to a full page write up in The New Yorker before they even have a single out. The long and short of it is that 79.5 wins over the listeners wherever they play with an infectious energy. Between the arrangements of bandleader Kate Mattison and the prowess of all the players, their sets run a gamut of energies and tempos, whether breaking it down to a capella, turning it up to disco, or mastering the middle, they run the groove, and the crowd follows suit. Take all of that and put it in the studio with Big Crown’s own Leon Michels on production duties and you get a record we can’t wait to put out in the world, a record on which every song was recorded live to tape in one take. “Terrorize My Heart”, a tune leaving no room for gray, finds the ladies of 79.5 walking the line between vulnerability and forthrightness. Setting out with admonishments of love and infatuation that are checked by the bluntness of women who’ve lived in the Big Apple for years, “is it her or is it me, that’s how it’s gotta be”. A smashing rhythm section covered in punching rhodes chops, flute parts, and dubbed out reggae rhythm guitar sets the perfect vibe for the ladies to trade off leads and come back together in three part harmonies: All the while taking the whole tune from half time to double time. The B side, coined the Disco Dub mixed by Jens Jungkurth, finds Michels’ production taking “Terrorize My Heart” from the change where it goes to four on the floor and lacing it with drums and a clap track that absolutely pushes this tune over the edge into the realm of dancefloor banger. Tombstones fall over, the earth cracks open, and dead people get up and dance when this comes on...
Cold Busted is digging deep into their extensive catalog to issue choice cuts – previously digital-only – onto wonderful 7” wax. This latest offering collects two of the label’s biggest tracks on a split single that’s sure to get the DJs salivating. First, the cool downtempo beats and breezy latin flavor of “Fiesta” by British producer 80s Casual create bonafide dance floor chills. Lovely flamenco guitar riffs, filtered drum beats, and incredibly cool vocal snatches and hand percussion show why this cut spent over 300 weeks on the Beatport top 100 Downtempo Chart … 8 of those weeks at #1. Flip the vinyl for Yuri Petrovski and his fun take on “True”. Also a hit on the Beatport Downtempo Chart – 24 weeks at #1, and 82 weeks total on the chart – this cut is the total definition of ‘slow jam’ with its steady rhythm, smooth synth pads, and deliciously cheeky sample loops. It’s tailor-made for the loungiest of mirror ball moments.
A-F-R-O is a breakthrough artist born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, who was first discovered by legendary rapper, R.A. The Rugged Man. Marco Polo is a Brooklyn based producer, raised in Toronto, Canada, who has produced music for artists such as Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Boot Camp Clik, Royce Da 5’9 & more.
A-Trak established his reputation as a producer by delivering some of the most ubiquitous remixes of the last ten years. The Grammy nominated DJ hero and renowned tastemaker has built a legacy that traverses eras and scenes, with a discography that is adored by all. This body of work is commemorated for the first time with In The Loop. The 12-track compilation (out in December on Fool’s Gold) effectively traces a recent history of EDM from the point of view of one of its biggest stars, collecting A-Trak’s most notable remixes — from blog favorites to festival smashes — and contextualizing them with anecdotes from their creator. In The Loop: A Decade Of Remixes will be available on all digital services and CD, as well a beautiful limited edition vinyl box set; the latter features six 7” colored vinyl singles in custom sleeves, accompanied by a 32 page booklet with A-Trak’s behind-the-scenes stories on each remix. Read his introduction below: I learned how to produce by doing remixes. It was my testing ground. In 2006 I had been DJing for over 10 years and my brother Dave was a seasoned musician, but I was still a novice in the studio. Making a full original song can be daunting, so here I was able to hand-pick my favorite vocals, steal a few kickdrums and chop up some cool synths. My remixes also allowed me to get my music heard. I didn’t have to finish a full project. They gave me an à la carte formula, landing on various labels. The great thing about remixes is they create an ecosystem. It’s almost like a shared economy. They forge bonds between artists: a remix request is the equivalent of giving your peer a pound and saying “you’re dope, give me some of that sauce.” They connect bands to DJs, producers among themselves, and all of them to new fans. For me this all started as electronic music blogs were spreading. We rarely went through managers. You would track down someone’s email and hit them up, cold. We helped each other finish tracks. I often delivered mine very, very late. But even to this day as I work on more original music, my sound is the result of these experiments.

Limited clear seven inch vinyl LP pressing. DJ hero A-Trak's single "We All Fall Down" transcends dance music's genres and trends. It's a welcome blend of throwback attitude ('80s electro soul, '90s Chicago house, two-stepping Y2K chart toppers), thoroughly modern production, and earworm melodies that feel timeless from the very first listen, courtesy of UK soulman Jamie Lidell.
Long Beach serial chiller Ahwlee is a beat vet who delivers smooth buttery samples with a nostalgic vibe. 1991 is a cult classic cassette now reissued for the first time. These tracks are dusty, mellow and easy-going. Don’t mistake mellow for boring, however, because Ahwlee’s production is nuanced and intricate underneath the minimalist overtones. There’s jazzed-up Rhodes all over the place, and the percussion work masterfully includes a ton of negative space in between perfectly chopped breaks. They’ll get your head nodding.

Surely to be one of the heaviest 45s dropped in 2016, this 45 is a can’t miss from AJ & The Jiggawatts! The A-side is heavy, heavy mid-tempo funk while the B-side is uptempo and is exactly what is sounds like...P-A-R-T-Y MUSIC!! For folks that like the funk flavor of Bobby Byrd and The Poets of Rhythm, this 45 will satisfy that itch!
A new soul organ trio featuring Alan Evans on drums (Soulive), Beau Sasser on organ (Akashic Record), and Danny Mayer on guitar (On The Spot Trio).
In December 1994, over two all-night improv sessions at New York’s Dessau Studios, Suicide’s Alan Vega, Big Star’s Alex Chilton and singer-songwriter Ben Vaughn joined forces without a predetermined plan. Out of those two nights came a truly mesmerizing album, “Cubist Blues”. Originally released in 1996, it is now reissued by Light In The Attic and Munster Records. To accompany this very special occasion, we are also releasing this 7" featuring a radio edit of ‘Candyman’ and the live version of album track ‘Lover Of Love’ from their concert at Trans Musicales in France, 1996, one of the only two live performances the ensemble ever did.
Muamin Collective producer, aLive, is obsessed with creating something original everytime he steps to his MPC. ALPMAN taps into instrumental psychedelic moods and funk-inspired grooves to create a whole new genre dubbed spychedelic. The a-side, “tintm,” is a break-filled track, and although this is not Turkish music, the fuzzed-out bağlama inspired guitar riff cannot be unheard as it carries things to an absolute hypnotizing groove. On the flip, the groove comes just as quick and you’ll hear some flavours of trip-hop, spy and lounge music, all of which will get you moving and tripping like a “Hypnotic Redhead.” ARTIST BIO. Gunes Alpman aka Alpman is an 18 year old Turkish musician and producer. Picking up and learning to play the guitar at 6, it’s now 12 years later he’s blending fuzzed-out bağlama inspired guitar riffs, a driving beat and the Hammond B3 to create distinctive and atmospheric instrumental cuts. Influenced by funk, psychedelic rock, afrobeat and soul jazz, Alpman creates a sound that feels familiar but that is somehow completely fresh “My point is to blend the 1970’s imperfect sound with the depressive and dark feelings of 21st century urban life. “ - Alpman His debut 7-inch on Kept Records captures this theme with two killer cuts. Calling it global grooves, worldbeat or psych-funk would be imprecise. Those influence may be there, but listen to the whole, and you’ll soon hear what it really is: Instrumental Spychedelic Funk.
Sold Out - $9.99
Alps fans rejoice! From the original DAT master, the coveted 1995 Intensity EP is now on a 7"! Staying true to the original design and on clear blue vinyl with a classic stickered jacket. The Cold Busted label unearths more funky nuggets from the fertile Russian soil with this brilliant 7“ single from Moscow’s Anatoly Ice. DJ, producer, and host of the Funk and Beyond parties and radio show (running for nearly ten years), Anatoly Ice has been drawn to the swing of a phat beat for a long while. This single bursts with old school funk and new school attitude, beginning with ”Something Happened (2Me)“. A vintage drum kit and melodic horns are joined by a big hip hop rhythm as the vocals and horn section are expertly cut up and rearranged. The song’s catchy hook – also the title – is left nearly intact and should playfully dance around any b-boy’s head as he does his thing. Flip the record for ”Light”, which exhibits a strutting breakbeat and some G-funk sauce in its prominent synth line. Funky piano, guitar, and bass provide the backdrop, soundtracking a midnight cruise through the bad (as in good) part of town. Hold tight … Anatoly Ice is at the wheel.

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
