Charles Vann a.k.a. SelfSays, hails from Detroit, MI. A truly original MC hailing from the city of Detroit, SelfSays, has always kept good musical company. You need only check the production list of his self-released 1st E.P. “Something Out of Nothing”, to know that his eye for talent is sharp and years ahead of its time.
On this single he brings together another wonderful group of up and coming talent: Open Mike Eagle (Chicago, L.A.) on the MIC, Doc Illingsworth (Detroit) rocking the MIC and the music, & Raj Mahal (Detroit, Chicago) and SelfSays himself, rounding out the production roster. But it is truly SelfSays lyrical content and cadence that set off this release.
He was recently featured as the lone MC on the song “Rollercoaster” off of the debut LP “Let It Go” by HouseShoes. He just finished a short trip to Europe with Shigeto (Ghostly) and has shared the stage with Shabazz Palaces, Muxmool, DoomTree & Guilty Simpson among others. He is currently working on his 1st release, for the London-based label Earnest Endeavors, in the form of a 12”.
