influence

We all know that your influenced by those around you. Rap albums these days have a lot of artwork that go along with the project. It's not like back in the days when it was all about the music. The scene has evolved and rappers and producers are very involved with their cover art and use it to help sell their records. I look at a lot of my favorite artist and their art and have to imagine that they weren't in the hood or the birth of Hip Hop, the Bronx, or even in places like Compton or South Chicago when they were deciding what cover art to use on their albums.
So I wonder if these artist have Hip Hop around them when they do their art because you hardly see Hip Hop art on any rap albums these days.
Some say Hip Hop has evolved which I agree with but I disagree on how the art evolved. Hip Hop art is graffiti and graffiti has evolved. If you say it's anything else then it's not Hip Hop, rather it's Hip Hop influenced. Graf is still the art of Hip Hop and graf artist these days do amazing things. You just don't see it in rap albums.

choice

A righteous preacher once said,
If you don't make a choice in your life to follow God, then by default you have made your choice.
wow.

faith in what you don't see

Some people believe in things they don't see and some have to see in order to believe. My faith is strong in the Lord even though I don't physically see Him. There are a lot of things that I couldn't see but then became visible to me. For instance, when I was 14 years old, and I was practising b-boying (breakdancing), everyday, I never imagined that I would be deejaying, never mind on a college station. But I was, and the un-imaginable happened. Shortly after that I went to the army and then college to pursue a career in business. I would of never seen myself owning a company that is known world-wide and that has lasted for over 13 years based on the deejaying I was doing in 1987. I would of never imagined this, but here I am owning a few corporations and doing business with a lot of my idols I grew up on. I'm still puzzled on what I do and where I'm at. I'm sure most people have things in their life that happened that they would of never imagined. Why not put that same philosophy in the one thing that will give you eternal life.

Believe, it's that simple.
We pray to God through Jesus Christ!

rap groups

What happened to all the rap groups? These days you hardly see any group of emcees, deejays and producers collectively working together on a few projects and call it a Hip Hop project. Now not every rapper is Common and will survive a solo career at that level for over 10 years.

It's sad how rappers and producers took Hip Hop and turned it into solo rap projects. Rappers that feel they don't need anyone or any advice usually fall far short of their true glory. I worked and continue to work with rappers and producers that think they know everything about the music industry. They want to hold on to their music and not release tracks because they think their might be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and that bid deal is coming soon. I know rappers that don't or can't get any features on their record. There not changing anything in their arsenal but want the label to sell more of their product and advance them money not due them. If you put an LP out and it sells 20,000 units, why would your next LP sell more if you put out the same type of album.

When the art of Hip Hop came out, it was all about unity and working together for the few that were part of this culture. These days, on top of everyone thinking their Hip Hop, most artist think they have the game figured out before they taste any real success. They don't take advice from their elders that been down the road their trying to go down. They get yes men around them and hire lawyers to make their decisions. What's really sad about this non-unified art form is the lawyers make more money on Hip Hop than the people involved. And this greediness in Hip Hop has divided it to allow, and has allowed, the hipsters to take over the art form. The light that was once on Hip Hop has been dimmed and is almost out. Maybe some of these so called, keep it real, rappers will incorporate a deejay, b-boys and some graff into their project so they can call themselves a Hip Hop group rather than a solo rapper, and we can say Hip Hop is not dead, through rap at least.
