After enduring one of the toughest COVID-19 lockdowns in the world, Melbourne-based trio Cookin’ on 3 Burners reunited to cook up a hot new dish – and the results are anything but cold. The “World is Cold” is the Burners first single release for the decade. Continuing on their tradition of collaborating with guest artists, which has seen them work with Daniel Merriweather, Kungs, Kylie Auldist and countless others; this new outing partners up the Burners with Hip Hop icon Mantra. Spitting lyrics that feel more relevant than ever, “The World is Cold” is a call to stand up and be strong; to shine our light into the world even when we are in the dark.
In true Cookin’ on 3 Burners style, this record sits just as comfortably on an audiophile’s classic turntable as it does in the B-boys Soundsystem. The B side is a surprisingly addictive rendition of Mos Def’s 1999 release “Ms. Fat Booty”. A strong return to Cookin’ on 3 Burners roots as an instrumental funk trio, this cut references Aretha Franklin’s 1965 “One Step Ahead” release, the track originally sampled by Mos Def. It follows a suite of super funky interpretations recorded by the band including Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’ and Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’.
