Moonchild - Please Rewind (LP)
Pressed to vinyl for the very first time, 'Please Rewind' is the acclaimed second album from new-school soul/jazz pioneers, Moonchild. Its release caps off a whirlwind 18 months for the band, epitomized with their crowning as Jazz FM's Soul Act Of The Year. The album sees the LA based group explore new soul / jazz / electronic ground, with a penchant for exquisite arrangement they create textured and catchy riffs which has excited everyone from post-bop jazz lovers to contemporary neo-soul crowds. The band's early offerings gained approval from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, Robert Glasper, Laura Mvula, Jazzy Jeff, Tyler, The Creator and Gilles Peterson. This long player ties together ten chilled out grooves which ooze soul-jazz rhythms, horns and sweltering, heart-filled vocals. Using soulful horn solos and vibrant key riffs and breaks, 'Please Rewind' sounds like an arthouse film score to an unfolding LA love story, which seeps into your subconscious and out of your headphones. The name 'Moonchild' came about before the project had even started. 'The three of us bonded one evening while star-gazing, so when it came to think of a name for the band, we knew that it was right.' Fast-forward three years of jamming together on the University of Southern California's Jazz programme, and Moonchild have played some of the biggest Jazz festivals in America (Montreal, Capital, Arizona, Sandiego etc.), and toured with prolific names from Stevie Wonder to Jill Scott and James Posner.
