Pimp C - Long Live the Pimp (CD)
Pimp C cemented his legacy in the South long before the world knew his name. As one of half of Port Arthur's own UGK, the Texas native melded his talents as an emcee, producer, and singer to craft an undeniable sound with Bun B-one that's often imitated, but has never been replicated. By the time Jay Z brought them aboard for "Big Pimpin'" in 2000, it was more of an overdue cosign than a helping hand, although it was arguably a breakthrough moment for the duo, in terms of mainstream success.
Since his untimely passing on December 4, 2007, the hip hop community has kept Pimp C's memory alive by continuing to share his music with the next generation, who in turn pay homage through their own creative endeavors. However, this December 4th, fans can celebrate Pimp C's legacy by enjoying new material from the late legend.
Long Live The Pimp features some of the late icon's collaborators and contemporaries, including Nas, T.I., Juicy J, A$AP Rocky, Slim Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, David Banner, Devin the Dude, Lil Keke, ESG, Pimpin Ken, 8Ball & MJG, and of course Bun B. The album also features production from Mr. Lee, Ray Murray (of Organized Noize), Crazy Mike, and Cory Mo.
"This album is the culmination of years of work from not just me, but also the amazing artists and producers who contributed to make it happen," says Pimp C's widow, Ms. Chinara Butler, who spearheaded the project. "It combines several of the ideas and projects my husband began before his untimely passing. We hope the Trill fans enjoy it."
