A particular perceptive trance from Ahnnu focusing on the finer details - birth name Leland Jackson delivers “Perception” as his 2nd full length avant-garde masterwork for Leaving Records. First run of 300 cassettes wrapped in silver translucent O-Card. Cover collage from Ahnnu, Typography Jesse Moretti, mastered by Matthewdavid.
For his first ever offering on vinyl, Leaving Records presents “World Music / Perception” in a stunning gatefold double LP package. World Music introduces a series of themes which represent various styles and likenesses adopted in Ahnnu’s growth as a sound artist living in the digital age. In respect to environment, Ahnnu creates a body of sound-work that is transient in nature. Each track is arranged as separate entities and are holistic in the sense that they are intended to inspire an experience of indifference within a space of perpetual sonic motion. “World Music” describes the continuous sensory shift of both meditative neglect and cognitive sophistication when active within a (digitally) connected culture. Perception finds Ahnnu tampering with volume, pitch, and rhythm in the midst of the shivering hum that drives the album forward while camouflaging its detail. The album moves at an almost unnoticeable pace, but it’s filled with delicious rhythms, like the scrambled marching drum of “Scaling,” the flickering pulse of “Intercept,” and the dust-flecked loops on “Elastic.” These percussive tracks carve a form for the ambient subtleties that seem to have the most impact due to their length and timbre. This is wonderfully refined on “The Racer” or even “Anneal,” with its transitory exhalations and crumpled echo.
Carlos Niño is a Los Angeles-based producer, composer, ensemble orchestrator, Dublab Labrat, and mentor. He is also DJ of the influential KPFK radio show, Spaceways Radio, a program dating back to 1995 that has hosted guests like A Tribe Called Quest, J. Dilla, Gil Scott-Heron, Afrika Bambaata, and many others. On April 22, Carlos Niño will be sharing the 4th installment of his Carlos Niño & Friends series, entitled Flutes, Echoes, It's All Happening!, on LEAVING Records. Flutes was recorded in California, mostly in the greater Los Angeles area, and demonstrates Niño's signature style of Space Collage Hybrid music. A spiritual, free-form, progressive full-length that touches on jazz, New Age, psychedelic and ambient musics, Flutes sees contributions from artists like Madlib, Kamasi Washington, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, the latter of whom has recorded & composed for acts like Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty, Flying Lotus, and others. The music on Flutes spans a few years, leading up to March 2015. Of this, Niño remarks, "I rarely throw anything away, and in this case, a few pieces I'd started and archived were brought back to the forefront as they vibrationally matched with the project. There is overlap in space, time and sound with these records."

Without Laying claim to real learning it is yet true that since my childhood I have striven to learn the minds of the best and wisest of every period of time. It is a disgrace for every artist who does not try to do as much.” - November 2, 1809, to Breitkopf and Hartel, of Leipzig.
From Leaving Records, the debut album from drummer Deantoni Parks – John Cale, Sade, The Mars Volta, Flying Lotus collaborator. The relationship between music and technology is always evolving ... but true music can not exist without a soul. Some extraordinary musicians augment their natural talents with technology, adopting its benefits to fuel their own singular vision, and that is the basis of Deantoni Parks' debut album Technoself. Parks is one of the finest drummers working today, displaying a sleek and intuitive balance between raw rhythmic physicality and machine-like precision. He can play on one hand what many great drummers could not achieve with two – which he does frequently. His skills have seen him perform with artists such as John Cale, Sade, The Mars Volta, Flying Lotus and his own boundary-pushing group KUDU, among others. Notable collaborations aside, Parks is an artist in his own right, constantly in motion and expanding towards something new. On Technoself, you hear Parks totally in control. Three of the tracks were recorded live in a session at Dub Lab, the others in a studio. In his own words, "The sound result of Technoself is a digestion of sounds being refined, filtered, and re-arranged in the time period of the average thought." There are no overdubs or loops on this record. The sound is that of "segmented, split-second curated soundscapes atop a highway of refined, war-drum rhythms." The album plays out like a percussive crash course winding through Parks' diverse influences and moods, where the only constant is Deantoni's unmistakable sense of movement. In this case, the most important piece of technology turns out to be the human body.

Dntel is Jimmy Tamborello. Human Voice drops September 23. "Judging by the title of Jimmy Tamborello’s latest Dntel LP—Human Voice, you’d think he just completed another guest-heavy collection of synth-and-sample-laced pop songs. Not quite; the voices here are actually quite inhuman, a cast of paranoid androids lost in a complex lattice of avant-dance loops." – SELF TITLED "Tamborello is probably best known for his genre-crushing pop project The Postal Service ... He experiments with with footwork on first single, and if you ever wanted to hear what The Postal Service might sound like with a rolling juke pulse, well now you can." – FACT "He’s been making layered and pretty solo electronic music as Dntel for about 20 years. The new LP is called Human Voice, and it’s built around the idea of voices that have been processed and mutated to the point where they’re just another layer in the mix." – STEREOGUM "Remember when Dntel was progressing pop to the point of beyond musical territory and then the Postal Service fucked it all up and got that UPS commercial? Fuck all that! ‘Cause his single 'If I Stay a Minute' blows all intentions of advancing music outta the atmosphere." – TINY MIX TAPES "Tamborello is best known as the producer for The Postal Service, and for vocalists and songwriters like Baths and Mia Doi Todd. Human Voice, his seventh full-length as Dntel" – RESIDENT ADVISOR

Los Angeles' Guy Blakeslee is the visionary guitarist and songwriter from Entrance/The Entrance Band. "The Middle Sister" is new territory for a Blakeslee recording album: 100% instrumental movements for acoustic and electric guitar recorded to & from magnetic tape. 19 minute-long Side A envelops two migrations of acoustic guitar picking within particles of acoustic piano ambiance and tibetan singling bowl texture. 20 minute-long Side B continues upon the melodic motif beginning within an electric domain of resonant drone. As the movements mature, the listener is carried into a climax of krautrock trance, dissolving into a liberating resolution of experimental harmonics and noise. "The Middle Sister" represents maturity of a master craftsman for a generation seeking hope, and finding truth.

M Geddes Gengras is one half of Duppy Gun Productions, and a prolific music producer on his own. Ishi will be released June 24 on Leaving Records. Download card with vinyl includes all 4 tracks.XLR8R: “The ‘signature sound’ of Matthewdavid’s Leaving Records imprint has been joyously hard to pin down since its inception, with the label anchoring itself in the world of abstract beats as much as it is unafraid to venture into lopsided noise, refracted house, musique concrete, and, in the case of a forthcoming record from M. Geddes Gengras, sprawling ambient expeditions. The artist’s Ishi LP offers a series of elongated synth expeditions. M. Geddes Gengras’ work is described as being ‘based in modular synthesis, comfortably straddling a variety of forms and remaining rooted in a deep affinity for the limitations of analog electronics and a keen ear for timbral manipulation.’Named after Ishi, ‘the last wild Indian’ who appeared at the age of 49 in 1911 North America as a complete outsider to the modern world, the effort’s three tracks (with a bonus cut in the CD/digital packages) are said to be inspired by what the artist describes as, ‘the schism that exists between the world we live in and those stuck on the margins of it—perpetual outsiders and their quest to understand the torrent of information they are constantly subjected to.’"
It’s Now! Eternally! Easy, Tender, Loving Sound. The Guide is You. The Glide is Life. Be Yourself, Live Fully - That’s what the Vibrations are Encouraging, Echoing, Waving, Glowing, Singing, Rippling, Radiating. Matthewdavid’s Mindflight is Heart Music. It’s a record of beauty that has evolved from explorations into his deepest emotions, visions and imagination. The Flights were most directly inspired by his profound connection with Michael Stearns’ Planetary Unfolding (Continuum Montage, 1981). You can feel that Trust is it’s Brother. Stearns speaks of Dreams, Resonance, Unity, and Ecstasy. Matthew adds that this journey has been one of Healing, Discovery, Finding, and Transformation. The two and their kindred are wondrous Sonic-Energetic-Midwives helping to usher in this age of Expanded Consciousness. The process and source are Extra and Terrestrial, Synthesized, Improvised (Live on Dublab Radio) Meditations. Sourced from the well of spiritual expression, these recordings were further realized in Abelton. You’re flying through the mystical world of Gilbert William’s cover, the software technology is dancing with circuitry, Flute, Harp, Hulusi, Water, Sonar, Quasar, and microtonal language are Tied and Dyed in the moment. The Mind is programmed by the Heart. With an open Heart the Mind can apply our gifts. I asked Matthew what he’s seen on / in his Mindflights: “Unconditional Love! Stillness - Centeredness,” he replied. “I’ve seen and felt my ancestors, I’ve heard the songs of humanity . . .” Welcome, Listen, Hear, Here, Now, Celebrate! Joyously Written with Trust the Guide and Glide on repeat, Tuesday, December 8, 2015, in Woodland Hills, California - Carlos Niño

Odd Nosdam AKA David Madson makes his second appearance on Leaving Records and greets 2016 with a breathtaking LP entitled Sisters. Throughout, Odd Nosdam splits his time between cosmic, slow burning beats and reflective soundscapes littered with intriguing textures and mind bending samples. Analogue sounds are generous and knowingly manipulated. Gorgeous samples are deployed, sturdy yet emotional. Cymbals explode. Already a long revered figure in underground beats, in the last several years Odd Nosdam has been able to test his new productions on the world class sound system of Low End Theory. Much of Sisters was inspired by those room shaking sonics, so it is fitting that kindred spirit Teebs makes an appearance here in a dreamy collaboration. Although Sisters contains plenty of absolute bangers, its quieter moments also stun with their hypnotic beauty. Madson writes of the inspiration for the title track, “or example, that moment when the sun finally breaks through on an overcast day, Sisters was very much inspired by that wonderful feeling… so that particular feeling - plus the longing for it - on top of 808s.”

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
