Includes remixes by Death Grips, Hudson Mohawke, Alva Noto, Matthew Herbert, Omar Souleyman, Current Value, These New Puritans and more. One Little Indian presents Bastards, an album of remixed tracks from Björk's 2011 album Biophilia. Bastard includes some of the remixes released by Björk in an eight-part series in 2012, remastered for this album by Grammy-nominee Mandy Parnell. The 13-song set features collaborations with artists and producers specifically chosen by Björk including Current Value, Death Grips, Hudson Mohawke, Alva Noto, Matthew Herbert, Omar Souleyman, 16-bit, These New Puritans, and The Slips. The original Biophilia album was released in 2011 to critical acclaim. The New York Times raved, "the new songs juxtapose hovering textures of choir and organ with sparse pointillism and sudden eruptions of breakbeat drumming, all set against Björk's idiosyncratic melodies: pithy or sustained, pausing unexpectedly and then snaking upward and opening out to a banshee wail." "I felt it important to gather together the essence of the remixes," explains Björk of the project, "so I picked a quarter of them for one (release) for people who are perhaps not too sassy downloaders or don't have the time or energy to partake in the hunter-gathering rituals of the internet. I was incredibly impressed by how the core of the mixes took Biophilia somewhere else while still keeping its character, and like so often do when at their best; the remixes gave the songs more beats; legs to dance on! I spent some time editing together not necessarily the best ones but the ones that made the strongest whole."
In celebration of Björk’s mid-career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the release of the Björk: Archives book, One Little Indian is reissuing the Björk vinyl back catalogue, and for an exclusive period the vinyl will be coloured to the hue that personifies that album character. After 5000 copies all albums will revert back to black vinyl. Featuring the tracks Human Behaviour, Venus as a Boy, Big Time Sensuality and Violently Happy. Debut is... shy beginner humility virgin beige silver mohair the messenger Freed from the Sugarcubes' confines, Björk takes her voice and creativity to new heights on Debut, her first work after the group's breakup. With producer Nellee Hooper's help, she moves in an elegantly playful, dance-inspired direction, crafting highly individual, emotional electronic pop songs like the shivery, idealistic "One Day" and the bittersweet "Violently Happy." Despite the album's swift stylistic shifts, each of Debut's tracks are distinctively Björk. "Human Behaviour"'s dramatic percussion provides a perfect showcase for her wide-ranging voice; "Aeroplane" casts her as a yearning lover against a lush, exotica-inspired backdrop; and the spare, poignant "Anchor Song" uses just her voice and a brass section to capture the loneliness of the sea. Though Debut is just as arty as anything she recorded with the Sugarcubes, the album's club-oriented tracks provide an exciting contrast to the rest of the album's delicate atmosphere.

In celebration of Björk’s mid-career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the release of the Björk: Archives book, One Little Indian is reissuing the Icelandic artist's back catalog on vinyl including Debut (1993), Post (1995), Homogenic (1997), Vespertine (2001), Medulla (2004), Volta (2007) and Biophilia (2011). Björk's official third studio effort served as an emotionally rich and sonically daring homage to her native Iceland with the sweet melodies and dance-pop of her prior albums replaced with evocative strings and abstract rhythms. Includes production from LFO's Mark Bell and Post cohort Howie B and contributions from the Icelandic String Octet. Home to the singles "Hunter," "Joga," "Bachelorette," "Alarm Call" and "All Is Full Of Love." "The music of Homogenic is very close to the music I heard as a child. It's a very Icelandic record, especially as far as rhythm is concerned. But it's not a record that wasn't there yesterday; it's always been there, but just had to materialize. The sounds, the rhythms, the emotions, they've always been inside my head. I put them down on Homogenic. I look at it as a document. And the title of the record actually indicates that the music comes more or less from one direction: straight from the heart, because home is where the heart is. This time I didn't want too much intervention from others." - Björk

After 5000 copies all albums will revert back to black vinyl. For her second solo outing following the break-up of the Sugarcubes Björk enlisted a handful of top producers including Nellee Hooper, Graham Massey, Tricky, Howie B and Marius de Vries and ambitiously expands on her electronic dance-pop sound with trip-hop and orchestral flourishes. Featuring the singles "Army Of Me," "Hyperballad," "It's Oh So Quiet," "Isobel" and "Possibly Maybe." "Whereas Debut was like the greatest hits of ten years, Post was like the last two years. For me, all the songs on the album are like saying, 'listen, this is how I'm doing,' and that's why I called the record Post, because I always address my songs back in my head to Iceland in a letter. Because it was such a big jump for me to move away from all my relatives, all my friends, everything I know." - Björk
Vulnicura Live was mixed by Björk with help from Arca and the Haxan Cloak, both of whom also worked on the studio version. The 14-song set will include performances of seven Vulnicura tracks, and seven tracks culled from the rest of Björk’s catalog. All the tracks were recorded from various performances throughout the Vulnicura album cycle.

Limited run of 5000 copies. Bjork's work turned softer and more intimate on 2001's Vespertine, an album inspired by concepts of love and sex. Sweepings strings are heavily featured on the album, as are glitchy, microsounds created by the American duo Matmos. Her intimate and celestial fourth official full-length outing features largely whispered vocals, micro-beats and lush strings which envelop and seduce the listener. As delicate as it is beautiful, Vespertine stands as one of Björk's crowning achievements. Includes the hypnotic singles "Hidden Place," "Cocoon" and "Pagan Poetry."

Never one to shy away from collaboration, Bjork pulls in the help of Mark Bell (from LFO), a fourteen-piece brass section, and Malian, Congolese and Chinese guest musicians, as well as the commercial hip-hop and R'n'B beat-meastros, Timbaland and Danja to input into her 7th studio album. The two tender duets with Antony Hegarty as tension respites from an album that is often heavily electronic, bold, fierce and brilliant throughout.
Björk Biophilia on Limited Edition Colored 2LP + Download! At the core of Björk's groundbreaking multi-media project Biophilia are, of course, the eternally restless artist's sonically brilliant and emotionally stirring songs, akin to the magical, otherworldly, atavistic hymns of her acclaimed 2001 release, Vespertine. On Vespertine, Björk rhapsodized about a new romance; here, she attempts nothing less than to retell the story of the creation of the universe in her own compellingly idiosyncratic voice. Biophilia is an interdisciplinary exploration of the universe and its physical forces - particularly those where music, nature, and technology meet - inspired by these relationships between musical structures and natural phenomena, from the atomic to the cosmic. "What I always wanted to do was to reconnect musicology with nature," Björk told the New York Times. "I always wanted to make bass lines behave like gravity."
Bjork Medulla on Limited Edition Colored 2LP! Björk changed gears once again on the trailblazing Medulla which was built entirely around the human voice and a cappella arrangements with limited instrumentation. In addition to Icelandic and British choirs the Grammy-nominated effort features vocal acrobatics from Faith No More's Mike Patton, Soft Machine's Robert Wyatt and Canadian throat singer Tagaq; beatboxing from Rahzel (formerly of The Roots) and Japanese artist Dokaka; and contributions from programmer Mark Bell and mixer Mark "Spike" Stent. Includes the riveting numbers "Oceania," "Pleasure Is All Mine" and "Where Is The Line." "The album is about voices. I want to get away from instruments and electronics, which was the world of my last album, Vespertine. I want to see what can be done with the entire emotional range of the human voice - a single voice, a chorus, trained voices, pop voices, folk voices, strange voices. Not just melodies but everything else, every noise that a throat makes." - Björk

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
