Known for their explorative and restless sound, taking influence from old style rock like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Pink Floyd as well as from electronica and hip hop, each of Radiohead's albums marks a cornerstone in their musical evolution. Debut Pablo Honey (1993) was their answer to grunge while follow-up albums The Bends (1995) and OK Computer (1997) offered atmospheric, almost avant-garde tones. With the near impossible task of following up their critically acclaimed masterpiece OK Computer, Radiohead took another bold leap at the turn of the millennium with Kid A, an experimental album built largely around the union of electronica and mood. Musically, Kid A is as accomplished as anything Radiohead has ever produced and its overflowing with eye-opening musical mosaics which are absolutely stunning in their insight and beauty. Kid A initally proved to be controversial as critics labeled the mixture of electronic beats, jazz horns and strings as "difficult" but tracks like the soaring "Optimistic" kept fans loyal and saw Radiohead crowned as masters of composition. A left-field hit, Kid A was eventually nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year and won for Best Alternative Album.

This Double LP Is Packaged With a Stand Alone 100 Page Full Color Book, Filled With Incredible Photos And Words By Nigerian music historian Uchenna Ikonne (Who Is William Onyeabor?) The Western world was in the throes of peace, love and flower power as Nigeria descended into Civil War in 1967. The rock scene that developed during the following three years of bloodshed and destruction would come to heal the country, propagate the world-wide ideal of the Modern Nigerian, and propel Fela to stardom after conflict ended in 1970. Wake Up You! tells the story of this time, pays homage to these now-forgotten musicians and their struggle, and brings to light the funk and psychedelic fury they created as they wrested free of the ravages of the late 1960s and created thrilling, original Nigerian rock music throughout the 1970s. Presented in two volumes, each in a 100 page book full of never-seen photos along with detailed liner notes by Nigerian musicologist and researcher Uchenna Ikonne (Who Is William Onyeabor?), with all tracks fully licensed from the bands themselves.

The sixth studio album by Radiohead, released in 2003, Hail to the Thief was seen as a return to alternative rock, drawing its sound from every era of the band's existence. Band members described the album as having a more "swaggering" sound and a relaxed recording process, in contrast to previous tense sessions. At nearly an hour in length, the album is the band's longest, with many of its songs within the two-to-three-minute range, shorter than the band's average. Thom Yorke said he was inspired by Beatles songs of that length which he thought felt much longer.
Although it's more song-driven and acoustic than Kid A, Radiohead's Amnesiac was hulled from the same sessions and it marked the first time in the band's career that a new record didn't bring about a complete shift in artistic priorities. It's nevertheless another brilliant offering from the most musically innovative band in modern music and another fine example of the fact that they're comfortably in a league all their own.
The Bends is the second studio album by Radiohead. In 1995, two years after an incredible debut in Pablo Honey, Radiohead were under tremendous pressure to deliver. Much to the delight of critics and fans the world over, they did more than deliver—they far exceeded expectations. Building from the sweeping, three-guitar attack that punctuated the best movements of Pablo Honey, The Bends is grand and forceful; it resonates with anguish and despair. Although the influences—R.E.M., the Pixies, and U2—are still there, this is unmistakenly Radiohead maturing and defining their own sound.

Every few years in the genre of Hip Hop there comes an album that gracefully, yet unapologetically steers clear of the redundantly trodden path that so many artist become accustomed to walking. Such bravery is often rewarded by the Art Gods, this time is no exception as UK Born , New Jersey Emcee Cymarshall Law & Hungarian Producer Mr. Joeker team up for the 3rd time and bring you the masterful, Hip Hop in the Soul 3, the first in the series featuring KRS-1 , this time a colorful bunch of guests are invited. Cymarshall Law weaves in and out of different song topics that have rarely been touched if at all effortlessly as his lyrical prowess has yet again moved forward in innovative and original way.The MCs refusal to “ walk in a straight line” is refreshing in a way that lets you know some artists still value originality and crafting a skill of their own. Mr. Joeker steps forward to prove he is a true gem in the form of a super producer. The production here raises the bar boom bap reigns supreme, though Mr. Joeker shows great range by taking us into new musical dimensions of his own creation, the result is Hip Hop in it’s purest , rawest form with a new school twist, an album that by all means will wake many people up to take notice, as this duo is finally putting the Soul back into Hip Hop
Soul / Funk from Topanga Canyon, CA. Recorded and Mixed at Killionsound by Sergio Rios. Side A is a mid-tempo soulful landscape with a heavy backbeat. Featuring vocals by bass player Terin Ector that takes off into a Jazz influenced horn driven B section. Side B is an instrumental in 3/4 incorporating overlapping rhythmic layers into a modern/funky afrobeat style. Focusing on the grove and sonic colors, this track will be sure to make your body move all led by a melodic horn melody.
Bay Area multi-instrumentalist Diamond Ortiz brings you his first full-length physical release with “Special Request,” following 2014s “Zooted” 7” and 2015s “Boomerang EP.” Opting this time for a cassette release, fans of all things on the one can also expect to see vinyl at some point in the near future. In any format, “Special Request” stands as a further testament to the juicy, hard-bottomed slabs of funk that Ortiz is known to serve up, combining licks from all of his weapons of choice - analog synth, vocoder, talkbox, guitar, and bass. He runs the gamut, from his frenetically paced ode to Roger Troutman’s gutter Ohio funk on “Playeristic Tendencies” to the more austere, yet still danceable, boogie-laced feel of “Slow Mo.” For those who prefer their music to have the stank in it, “Special Request” is the perfect soundtrack.
Tippa Lee’s new album Cultural Ambassador will be released on Stones Throw, May 20, 2016. Tippa Lee was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. He started performing on his fathers Sound System as a child, standing up on a beer bottle box to reach the mic. He made his first recordings at King Tubby‘s studio at the age of 12. Eventually he teamed up with Rappa Robert and as a duo had a number of hits including “No Trouble We”, an anthemic statement against police harassment, which was a number one Jamaican hit in 1988 and is still played often on Jamaican radio. In more recent years he has been based in the US, performing live and releasing his own underground CDs.

Since his first 12” as Pantha Du Prince in 2002, Hendrik Weber has steadily built himself a career as a progenitor of the organic, humanistic branch of minimal techno that has helped the genre – and experimental electronic music more broadly – earn itself the place at the cultural table that it now has. And with his first proper solo Pantha Du Prince LP in 6 years, coming after 2010’s beloved, now-canonical Black Noise (and his acclaimed 2013 collaboration with The Bell Laboratory, Elements Of Light), Weber has further refined and advanced his uniquely naturalistic style into a sweeping and grand, but detailed and absorbing album, whose tracks evoke the tides’ crashings as much as the orchestra’s chamber, a cool night in a damp, mossy forest as much as the thrum of the dancefloor. A brilliant addition to an already spectacular career, The Triad is Pantha Du Prince’s most far-reaching statement yet, and a testament to the deeply human, enchanting potential in electronic music.
Awake represented a high-water mark for Scott Hansen, the San Francisco musician better known as Tycho. Described by Hansen as, “in many ways, the first True Tycho record,” Awake announced the arrival of Tycho as a full band, and it found Hansen streamlining the group’s sound, focusing on the drums and aiming to capture the energy and power of the group’s live set. The story of Awake arrives at its natural conclusion with this 12” of remixes, on which Hansen’s songs are re-interpreted by producers who make the songs their own while retaining all of their core elements. Baio, who splits his time between solo work and his role as bassist in Vampire Weekend, gives “Plains” a kind of soulfulness, adding a driving rhythm to the original’s beatless ambience and dropping in snatches of vocal for texture and warmth. RJD2 takes the swift-kicking “Apogee” and transforms it into tranquil instrumental funk; In the hands of Few Nolder, “Montana” becomes tense and driving, four-on-the-floor beat undergirding bright, rippling synths. Additional remixes from Com Truise, Christopher Willits, Bibio and Beacon, which had been previously released, have been added to this package. Taken together, the Awake Remixes offer a parallel narrative for Tycho’s artistic breakthrough.
For the last decade, Tim Heidecker (along with his comedy partner Eric Wareheim) has proven to be one of our cult-comedy greats with his Adult Swim series "Tim & Eric's Awesome Show, Great Job!" and "Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories." He's starred in indie films and played sold out stand-up sets around the world. But who is Tim Heidecker? Is he a real man with all the regular feels? Well, yes, of course he is. He resides on a hill in Glendale, CA, up to his armpits in diapers, bills, his mortgage, in the workaday life of a writer. It's this pedestrian side of his life from which Heidecker pulls the fodder for the aptly titled In Glendale, his first earnest collection of songwriting under his full name. In Glendale shows Heidecker shifting deftly from the mundane to the idiosyncratic; from the sentimental to the caustic; from the earnest to the humorous. His knack for crafting catchy tunes amid curious subject matter pops up in spades across In Glendale. "Ghost In My Bed" is a lovely little number about cutting off someone's head, sticking it in a plastic bag and burying it beneath the Hollywood sign. After an album's worth of songs about Hollywood murder fantasies, diaper changes and even a cameo from director David Gordon Green, you're left desperately trying to wipe the smile off your face.

Adult Jazz first appeared back in 2013, amid a flurry of praise surrounding their joyous and addictive debut single 'Springful'. Their unanimously acclaimed debut album Gist Is followed in 2014, self-released on their label Spare Thought, with The Sunday Times calling it "utterly riveting" and the NME and The Line Of Best Fit both naming it their album of the week. Gist Is was a startling and mesmerising voyage from start to finish, taking a labyrinthian, fragmented pop-not-pop path, incorporating songs within songs, while maintaining a sense of humour through some of its complex themes surrounding religion, gender and humanity. Following the release of Gist Is, the band went on to play sell out tours around Europe as well as festivals including Latitude, End of The Road, CMJ and Iceland Airways. The latter was attended by none other than Bjork, who was moved to write about Adult Jazz as ones to watch for Art In America Magazine. David Byrne followed suit and asked them to play at last year's Meltdown festival with Young Marble Giants, while further endorsements came from diverse remixes by Oliver Coates, Happa and a very rare re-work from Shabazz Palaces. Since then the band have been busy collaborating, including producing OKAY KAYA's recent single 'Durer' / 'Keep On Pushin'. Adult Jazz return with a new record 'Earrings Off!' released on May 6 2016 via TriAngle. Comprised of seven tracks, it experiments with sound and song structure as well as its themes and narrative. Harry explains: "The record is about masculinity. Embodiment, lust, idealisation, privilege, legitimacy and limitation. It's about acknowledging the weight, with a view to liberation from its past clout. It's about picking your ideal body, and playing with body language to achieve authenticity. It's about the possibility of authenticity."

Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects. Joseph’s timing couldn’t have been more impeccable. When the 90’s cultural zeitgeist – and, in turn, the music industry establishment – chose hip-hop as its new arbiter of cool.
International tourists and touring artists alike flocked to Fat Beats for rare vinyl, kindred spirits, and exclusive in-store performances from Jay Z, Eminem, Gang Starr, Outkast, Slum Village, Mos Def, and more. One thing was clear: the Fat Beats phenomenon could no longer be contained in a single basement shop.
In the late nineties, Abajian proceeded to open new stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He further expanded the company’s profile to include global distribution and record label branches. Distribution has since proven to be the company’s strongest and most enduring enterprise. Today Fat Beats Distribution stands poised as one of the country’s pre-eminent distributors of vinyl & specialty item records: a proud survivor in an industry now famous for its mortality rate. Despite market fluctuations, technology innovations, and stylistic revolutions, Fat Beats has remained steadfast in its commitment to the timeless vinyl format and to the loyal community who keeps it spinning.
