For his first ever offering on vinyl, Leaving Records presents “World Music / Perception” in a stunning gatefold double LP package. World Music introduces a series of themes which represent various styles and likenesses adopted in Ahnnu’s growth as a sound artist living in the digital age. In respect to environment, Ahnnu creates a body of sound-work that is transient in nature. Each track is arranged as separate entities and are holistic in the sense that they are intended to inspire an experience of indifference within a space of perpetual sonic motion. “World Music” describes the continuous sensory shift of both meditative neglect and cognitive sophistication when active within a (digitally) connected culture. Perception finds Ahnnu tampering with volume, pitch, and rhythm in the midst of the shivering hum that drives the album forward while camouflaging its detail. The album moves at an almost unnoticeable pace, but it’s filled with delicious rhythms, like the scrambled marching drum of “Scaling,” the flickering pulse of “Intercept,” and the dust-flecked loops on “Elastic.” These percussive tracks carve a form for the ambient subtleties that seem to have the most impact due to their length and timbre. This is wonderfully refined on “The Racer” or even “Anneal,” with its transitory exhalations and crumpled echo.
Carlos Niño is a Los Angeles-based producer, composer, ensemble orchestrator, Dublab Labrat, and mentor. He is also DJ of the influential KPFK radio show, Spaceways Radio, a program dating back to 1995 that has hosted guests like A Tribe Called Quest, J. Dilla, Gil Scott-Heron, Afrika Bambaata, and many others. On April 22, Carlos Niño will be sharing the 4th installment of his Carlos Niño & Friends series, entitled Flutes, Echoes, It's All Happening!, on LEAVING Records. Flutes was recorded in California, mostly in the greater Los Angeles area, and demonstrates Niño's signature style of Space Collage Hybrid music. A spiritual, free-form, progressive full-length that touches on jazz, New Age, psychedelic and ambient musics, Flutes sees contributions from artists like Madlib, Kamasi Washington, and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, the latter of whom has recorded & composed for acts like Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty, Flying Lotus, and others. The music on Flutes spans a few years, leading up to March 2015. Of this, Niño remarks, "I rarely throw anything away, and in this case, a few pieces I'd started and archived were brought back to the forefront as they vibrationally matched with the project. There is overlap in space, time and sound with these records."

From Leaving Records, the debut album from drummer Deantoni Parks – John Cale, Sade, The Mars Volta, Flying Lotus collaborator. The relationship between music and technology is always evolving ... but true music can not exist without a soul. Some extraordinary musicians augment their natural talents with technology, adopting its benefits to fuel their own singular vision, and that is the basis of Deantoni Parks' debut album Technoself. Parks is one of the finest drummers working today, displaying a sleek and intuitive balance between raw rhythmic physicality and machine-like precision. He can play on one hand what many great drummers could not achieve with two – which he does frequently. His skills have seen him perform with artists such as John Cale, Sade, The Mars Volta, Flying Lotus and his own boundary-pushing group KUDU, among others. Notable collaborations aside, Parks is an artist in his own right, constantly in motion and expanding towards something new. On Technoself, you hear Parks totally in control. Three of the tracks were recorded live in a session at Dub Lab, the others in a studio. In his own words, "The sound result of Technoself is a digestion of sounds being refined, filtered, and re-arranged in the time period of the average thought." There are no overdubs or loops on this record. The sound is that of "segmented, split-second curated soundscapes atop a highway of refined, war-drum rhythms." The album plays out like a percussive crash course winding through Parks' diverse influences and moods, where the only constant is Deantoni's unmistakable sense of movement. In this case, the most important piece of technology turns out to be the human body.

Los Angeles' Guy Blakeslee is the visionary guitarist and songwriter from Entrance/The Entrance Band. "The Middle Sister" is new territory for a Blakeslee recording album: 100% instrumental movements for acoustic and electric guitar recorded to & from magnetic tape. 19 minute-long Side A envelops two migrations of acoustic guitar picking within particles of acoustic piano ambiance and tibetan singling bowl texture. 20 minute-long Side B continues upon the melodic motif beginning within an electric domain of resonant drone. As the movements mature, the listener is carried into a climax of krautrock trance, dissolving into a liberating resolution of experimental harmonics and noise. Odd Nosdam AKA David Madson makes his second appearance on Leaving Records and greets 2016 with a breathtaking LP entitled Sisters. Joseph Abajian (DJ Jab) founded Fat Beats in 1994 with nothing more than a shoestring budget and an earnest obsession with the music, the culture, and the brotherhood of New York’s burgeoning rap scene. What began as a simple vinyl shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side quickly became an integral hub for artists, both aspiring and established, to convene and collaborate on new projects.
