These recordings come from a rare studio session that took place in 1991 @ the Box Studio in NYC. Remastered from a demo tape cassette and pressed on a 7 inch vinyl, consider this a time capsule dating back to 1991. When Greg Caz and Deano Sounds teamed up to create The Brasileiro Treasure Box Of Funk & Soul they created a collection of vintage Brazilian music that stretches across the scope of funk, soul, and psychedelic. Co-compiler and Brazilian music aficionado, Greg Caz says: “Without necessarily having a central theme other than funky nuggets from the first half of the 70s, we believe this compilation displays its own particular sense of logic, and that these songs ultimately all sound fantastic together. Regardless of one’s familiarity, or lack thereof, with artists like Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, Os Incríveis, Toni Tornado or Celia, the material on these 45s speaks its own truth and justifies their inclusion here. Many of these were originally available as singles, while others were taken from albums, but all are guaranteed to find their way into many DJ boxes and playlists.” The stunning 45s from this set will now be available for individual sale. The series continues with the split 7” containing the essential rare groove track “Bananeira” by Emilio Santiago b/w Osmar Milito E Quarteto Forma’s rare “América Latina” (as sampled by Madlib). Also available, the extremely rare and funky “Labirinto” by 2001 & Beto on a split 45 with the Fender Rhodes driven infectious samba from Trio Mocotó called “Swinga Sambaby.”

Big Crown is proud to present the debut single from 79.5 “Terrorize My Heart”. Hard to categorize, easy to love, 79.5 has been making tons of noise around New York City for the past year. With three lead vocalists, Kate, Nya, and Piya and a band that pulls influence from every corner of a record store, it’s no wonder they are already taking the scene by storm. They are an act that gets put on as an opener and shortly there after is asked by the venue to do a month long residency. That residency leads them to a full page write up in The New Yorker before they even have a single out. The long and short of it is that 79.5 wins over the listeners wherever they play with an infectious energy. Between the arrangements of bandleader Kate Mattison and the prowess of all the players, their sets run a gamut of energies and tempos, whether breaking it down to a capella, turning it up to disco, or mastering the middle, they run the groove, and the crowd follows suit. Take all of that and put it in the studio with Big Crown’s own Leon Michels on production duties and you get a record we can’t wait to put out in the world, a record on which every song was recorded live to tape in one take. “Terrorize My Heart”, a tune leaving no room for gray, finds the ladies of 79.5 walking the line between vulnerability and forthrightness. Setting out with admonishments of love and infatuation that are checked by the bluntness of women who’ve lived in the Big Apple for years, “is it her or is it me, that’s how it’s gotta be”. A smashing rhythm section covered in punching rhodes chops, flute parts, and dubbed out reggae rhythm guitar sets the perfect vibe for the ladies to trade off leads and come back together in three part harmonies: All the while taking the whole tune from half time to double time. The B side, coined the Disco Dub mixed by Jens Jungkurth, finds Michels’ production taking “Terrorize My Heart” from the change where it goes to four on the floor and lacing it with drums and a clap track that absolutely pushes this tune over the edge into the realm of dancefloor banger. Tombstones fall over, the earth cracks open, and dead people get up and dance when this comes on...

Cold Busted is digging deep into their extensive catalog to issue choice cuts – previously digital-only – onto wonderful 7” wax. This latest offering collects two of the label’s biggest tracks on a split single that’s sure to get the DJs salivating. First, the cool downtempo beats and breezy latin flavor of “Fiesta” by British producer 80s Casual create bonafide dance floor chills. Lovely flamenco guitar riffs, filtered drum beats, and incredibly cool vocal snatches and hand percussion show why this cut spent over 300 weeks on the Beatport top 100 Downtempo Chart … 8 of those weeks at #1. Flip the vinyl for Yuri Petrovski and his fun take on “True”. Also a hit on the Beatport Downtempo Chart – 24 weeks at #1, and 82 weeks total on the chart – this cut is the total definition of ‘slow jam’ with its steady rhythm, smooth synth pads, and deliciously cheeky sample loops. It’s tailor-made for the loungiest of mirror ball moments.
A-F-R-O is a breakthrough artist born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, who was first discovered by legendary rapper, R.A. The Rugged Man. Marco Polo is a Brooklyn based producer, raised in Toronto, Canada, who has produced music for artists such as Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Boot Camp Clik, Royce Da 5’9 & more.
A-Trak established his reputation as a producer by delivering some of the most ubiquitous remixes of the last ten years. The Grammy nominated DJ hero and renowned tastemaker has built a legacy that traverses eras and scenes, with a discography that is adored by all. This body of work is commemorated for the first time with In The Loop. The 12-track compilation (out in December on Fool’s Gold) effectively traces a recent history of EDM from the point of view of one of its biggest stars, collecting A-Trak’s most notable remixes — from blog favorites to festival smashes — and contextualizing them with anecdotes from their creator. In The Loop: A Decade Of Remixes will be available on all digital services and CD, as well a beautiful limited edition vinyl box set; the latter features six 7” colored vinyl singles in custom sleeves, accompanied by a 32 page booklet with A-Trak’s behind-the-scenes stories on each remix. Read his introduction below: I learned how to produce by doing remixes. It was my testing ground. In 2006 I had been DJing for over 10 years and my brother Dave was a seasoned musician, but I was still a novice in the studio. Making a full original song can be daunting, so here I was able to hand-pick my favorite vocals, steal a few kickdrums and chop up some cool synths. My remixes also allowed me to get my music heard. I didn’t have to finish a full project. They gave me an à la carte formula, landing on various labels. The great thing about remixes is they create an ecosystem. It’s almost like a shared economy. They forge bonds between artists: a remix request is the equivalent of giving your peer a pound and saying “you’re dope, give me some of that sauce.” They connect bands to DJs, producers among themselves, and all of them to new fans. For me this all started as electronic music blogs were spreading. We rarely went through managers. You would track down someone’s email and hit them up, cold. We helped each other finish tracks. I often delivered mine very, very late. But even to this day as I work on more original music, my sound is the result of these experiments.

Limited clear seven inch vinyl LP pressing. DJ hero A-Trak's single "We All Fall Down" transcends dance music's genres and trends. It's a welcome blend of throwback attitude ('80s electro soul, '90s Chicago house, two-stepping Y2K chart toppers), thoroughly modern production, and earworm melodies that feel timeless from the very first listen, courtesy of UK soulman Jamie Lidell.

The debut 7” release from Hobo Camp and 2nd release as a label comes from Adam Chini from San Diego, California. Adam is the lead keyboard player in Brian Ellis’ Reflection, and this release is a solo journey into a world of synth-ed out modern funk with a tinge of psychedelic bliss. Made using all analog equipment and vintage drum machines, Chini channels the vibe of lo-fi boogie funk rarities and creates a private press style release that could have been released at any point in time (is this from 1982, 1994 or 2016?)
Adult Jazz first appeared back in 2013, amid a flurry of praise surrounding their joyous and addictive debut single 'Springful'. Their unanimously acclaimed debut album Gist Is followed in 2014, self-released on their label Spare Thought, with The Sunday Times calling it "utterly riveting" and the NME and The Line Of Best Fit both naming it their album of the week. Gist Is was a startling and mesmerising voyage from start to finish, taking a labyrinthian, fragmented pop-not-pop path, incorporating songs within songs, while maintaining a sense of humour through some of its complex themes surrounding religion, gender and humanity. Following the release of Gist Is, the band went on to play sell out tours around Europe as well as festivals including Latitude, End of The Road, CMJ and Iceland Airways. The latter was attended by none other than Bjork, who was moved to write about Adult Jazz as ones to watch for Art In America Magazine. David Byrne followed suit and asked them to play at last year's Meltdown festival with Young Marble Giants, while further endorsements came from diverse remixes by Oliver Coates, Happa and a very rare re-work from Shabazz Palaces. Since then the band have been busy collaborating, including producing OKAY KAYA's recent single 'Durer' / 'Keep On Pushin'. Adult Jazz return with a new record 'Earrings Off!' released on May 6 2016 via TriAngle. Comprised of seven tracks, it experiments with sound and song structure as well as its themes and narrative. Harry explains: "The record is about masculinity. Embodiment, lust, idealisation, privilege, legitimacy and limitation. It's about acknowledging the weight, with a view to liberation from its past clout. It's about picking your ideal body, and playing with body language to achieve authenticity. It's about the possibility of authenticity."

Long Beach serial chiller Ahwlee is a beat vet who delivers smooth buttery samples with a nostalgic vibe. 1991 is a cult classic cassette now reissued for the first time. These tracks are dusty, mellow and easy-going. Don’t mistake mellow for boring, however, because Ahwlee’s production is nuanced and intricate underneath the minimalist overtones. There’s jazzed-up Rhodes all over the place, and the percussion work masterfully includes a ton of negative space in between perfectly chopped breaks. They’ll get your head nodding.
Airbird & Napolian is comprised of producers Joel Ford (Ford & Lopatin, Ejecta) and Ian Evans who have combined forces for a record on Cascine. The producers met while working on Napolian's Rejoice EP (Software) and an easy chemistry took shape. The debut Airbird & Napolian LP is inspired by west coast dreams and east coast nightmares. These worlds meld to create a gripping blend of American House, Cosmic Funk and Hip Hop. The producers' disparate environments are uniquely present in the material: New York sensibilities shine through in Joel's melodic bass lines, astral vocals and idiosyncratic song construction, while Ian, born and bred in LA, delivers consistently cool and heavy beatscapes, surrounded by psychedelic ambience and hard focus.

Surely to be one of the heaviest 45s dropped in 2016, this 45 is a can’t miss from AJ & The Jiggawatts!
